2024 Gala Honorees

  • Rachel and Mark Herr

Rachel and Mark Herr have been involved with Trenton Childrens Chorus for nearly two decades. Their daughter Sarah Herr, was a youth choir member at Nassau Presbyterian Church and got to sing with the then Trenton Children’s Chorus. That began a nearly three-decade relationship with the organization now known as Capital Harmony Works (CHW) which continues to this day with Sarah’s mother, Rachel, serving on the Finance Committee and the One Voice Gala Committee, and with her husband, Mark, providing sustained financial support for this mission.

The Herrs have made service and support to the communities in which they live and have lived a fundamental part of their lives. Rachel serves on the Board of Directors at Morven Museum and Garden, and previously sat on the boards of Corner House and the Present Day Club in Princeton. Mark serves on the board at 120 East State Street, the organization converting Trenton First Presbyterian Church into an arts and cultural center, and the Princeton Battlefield Society

Together, the Herrs have been longstanding supporters of Trenton for years, not only CHW but Arm and Arm, Foundation Academies Charter School, Isles Inc., Mercer Street Friends, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, and Trenton Rescue Mission.  Through Nassau Presbyterian Church where they are members, the Herrs have supported additional philanthropic efforts in Trenton.

  • The Richardson Family

The vastly well-rounded musical Richardson family consists of Roy and Dawana and twins Tabia and Tobias.

A multifaceted entertainer and recording artist, Roy is much sought after for his unmatched expertise at playing saxophone, flute, percussion, and as a singer, songwriter, and producer. Highlights of his career include performing at the Vatican for Pope John Paul, II in 1996 and the Montreal Jazz Festival in 1998. His latest project was released in June 2023 called Random Groove Series, Vol. 1. Roy has played with the likes of Meli’sa Morgan, Rueben Studdard, Johnny Gill, BeBe Winans, Norman Connors, Sarah Dash, the group CHANGE, Narada Michael Waldon, Najee and Adam Blackstone. His desire to give back to his community manifested and became very rewarding as he became the Co-founder and President of the Board for the Thomas Grice Academy of Music (established in 2014) where he taught instrumental music to children here in the Trenton area.

Dawana Gudger-Richardson is a classically trained vocalist who sings all genres of music. Her exhilarating voice has led her to hold roles in productions of Hansel and Gretel, La Boehme, WORKING, A…my Name Is Alice, HAIR, the WIZ and featured soloist in the first and second national Broadway musical tours of The Civil War featuring BeBe Winans, Larry Gatlin and John Schneider. She is very busy serving the community as a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and is the Atlantic Region Choir Director/Coordinator.

Not to be bested by their parents, while members of the Trenton Children’s Chorus, Tabia and Tobias have performed at the United Nations in New York City, the inauguration of Governor Chris Christie, the swearing-in ceremony of former US Representative Rush Holt, toured with South African singer and activist, Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, and for President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House. The creative Richardson, Tabia, is an aspiring visual artist who loves illustrating creations from her vivid imagination. She is very “artsy” and also enjoys knitting and crocheting. Tabia has been a member of the Capital Singers of Trenton for the past three years where she has been a featured soloist.

Extraordinarily talented Tobias is the “Globe Trotter” of the bunch! In 2023, he traveled the world touring as the drummer for one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, WuTang Clan, visiting several continents. Tobias has his own exceptional local band that he co-founded called OTC (Over the Counter).

  • Eric R. Thomas

Eric Robert Thomas is originally from Newark, New Jersey; he also claims East Orange, New Jersey, Tallahassee, Florida and Queens, New York as home. Eric has been an elementary school teacher for 24 years. Thomas came to Trenton Children’s Chorus in its founding year as a volunteer and few years later was asked to join the staff. Thomas would quickly become a pertinent part of a leadership and mentoring hub for the older choristers, teaching lessons beyond percussion. He has been blessed with being named Teacher of the Year by three different schools. In 2008, his students were featured in The New York Times, in an article titled “Trenton Students Find Strength in a Pact of Their Own.” I 2010, Thomas received the “Community Cares Award” given by The Three Doctor Foundation. When Eric isn’t teaching in a school, he’s most likely teaching percussion, participating in storytelling, tap dancing or promotion of local jazz events.
