Trenton Music Makers is Hiring!

Position:  String Teaching Artist

Hours: Mondays through Thursdays, 2:45-5:00pm

Pay:  Hourly rate based on experience

Reports To: Orchestra Program Director

Duties:

  • Teach small-group lessons for string students in the 2nd-5th or 6th-12th grades

  • Attend 5-6 student performances during the year, playing to support the section

  • Implement Trenton Music Makers curriculum, in coordination with the full team of teaching artists

  • Work creatively with outside consultants, musicians and organizations to enhance the development of the program

  • Communicate with parents

  • Attend occasional staff meetings and professional-development sessions

  • Collaborate in any documentation of the program that may take place, to include photography, filming, or recording

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in violin, viola, cello or bass performance, or equivalent

  • Ability to work effectively with young people from racially and culturally diverse communities

  • Passion for creating impact on the lives of young people through music

  • Commitment to creating a positive atmosphere that fosters mutual respect among teachers, students, parents and colleagues

  • Strong organization skills, matched by kindness, a sense of humor, and readiness to adapt

  • Professionalism and commitment to excellence

  • Successfully pass a background check

Strong Positives:

  • Experience teaching in group lessons

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Experience in El Sistema-inspired programs
