Trenton Music Makers is Hiring!

Position:  Upper Strings Teaching Artist, Dunn Middle School site

Hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 2:45 - 5:00; September 2018 - June 2019

Pay:  Hourly rate based on experience

Reports To: Orchestra Program Director, with a strong dotted-line relationship with the Site Coordinator

Duties:

  • Teach small-group lessons for violin and viola students in the 6th – 8th grades
  • Attend 5-6 student performances during the year, playing to support the section
  • Implement Trenton Music Makers curriculum, in coordination with the full team of teaching artists
  • Work creatively with outside consultants, musicians and organizations to enhance the development of the program
  • Communicate with parents
  • Attend occasional staff meetings and professional-development sessions
  • Collaborate in any documentation of the program that may take place, to include photography, filming, or recording

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in violin or viola performance, or equivalent
  • Ability to work effectively with young people from racially and culturally diverse communities
  • Passion for creating impact on the lives of young people through music
  • Commitment to creating a positive atmosphere that fosters mutual respect among teachers, students, parents and colleagues
  • Strong organization skills, matched by kindness, a sense of humor, and readiness to adapt
  • Professionalism and commitment to excellence
  • Successfully pass a background check

Strong Positives:

  • Experience in El Sistema-inspired programs
